I know you. I am you. I write this letter to give you hope, reassurance that God will make all things work together for your good. As a single mom of one, I am learning what true faith is. Faith in a supernatural God that we may not see with our physical eye, but we feel, sense and know once we start walking by faith and not by sight.
I want to first say that there is nothing wrong with you, you are strong, beautiful and persistent. You are wise, kind, smart and God has entrusted you to be the sole provider for your family, what an honor.
I believe everything happens for a reason and even when we make the wrong choices, God is there with us, teaching us how to choose his ways over our ways.
You are single for a purpose, right now in this season. You may struggle with fear, loneliness, doubt, depression, hardships, pain, but I am here to encourage you to not give up, to push through and trust this process.
We are in a world where many look to things, places and people for comfort. Many hope to find their worth, value and acceptance in mates, cars, jobs and clothes. But as single mothers and believers in Jesus Christ, we should not look to these things for comfort, we should keep our eyes on our Savior, He is the starter and finisher of it all.
Jesus knows your heart, your desires, your fears, and your pain. He took all of it and our sin on the cross, so we can live in Him and reap His full life today. Once the old has gone, we are new creations in His name. We are given new life in Him, no matter our relationship status, we have purpose and a reason for living and that is to know Jesus, depend on Him and then share Him with the world.
Psalm 68:5-6 states, “Father to the fatherless, defender of widows, this is God, whose dwelling is holy. God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy.”
God is our father. He is our protector. God is with us and His word says he will never leave us or forsake us. In this time of singleness, I pray you can experience His true love and grace that will strengthen you to be the best mom you can be for your child. I pray you can find your joy in Him and your peace in His will.
For myself, I had my daughter out of wedlock at the age of 26. I lived in sin for years because I was selfish, bitter, resentful, unforgiving and insecure. I hurt many people around me because I wanted to live my way and not submit and humble myself to my creator. When I found out I was pregnant, I was shocked but also awakened. I knew God was giving me a chance to learn from this and see His true love. I dedicated my life to God 5 years ago. I surrendered and repented for every action that was against Him because I knew He was my true father and I needed Him the most in my singleness.
Years have passed, and I am still overjoyed and more in love with Jesus then I have ever been. My relationship with Him has opened doors for success, provision and blessings. I see now that my sacrifices are worth it, my pain has now perfected my character and I am a willing vessel of His grace. He gave me a second chance to live out loud and proud for Him because He is my Daddy God.
Mom, you are His daughter, His most prize possession. God loves you so much and wants the best for you and your family. 1 Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Do not look at what you may lack right now, but what you do have. If you do desire more or need help, God is one call away. He desires us to follow Him and follow His word because it sets us up for success. His word is a tool for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. You can lean on Him and His thoughts over anything this world will lie to you about. Believe His words, trust His process and rely on His strength when you are weak. He is everything you need.
I end this letter saying this, you may think you have it all together, you do not need anyone, but the truth is, we all need help and if you do not have a physical person there with you, the Holy Spirit will guide you as your advocate and leader.
Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and not lean on your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge Him and he will direct your path.”
Let Him direct you, lead you into the plan and purpose for your life!
